Introduction
Dewald Viljoen completed his undergraduate degree in physiotherapy from the University of Pretoria in 2005, then completed his community service in Sabie in 2006. He worked in a private practice in Potchefstroom in 2007 and 2008 that worked closely with the rugby and athletic teams of The University of Potchefstroom, gaining good knowledge in assessment and management of sporting injuries. In the same time period he completed his post graduate special interest course in Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy (Currently known as the Advanced Neuromuscular Skeletal Course) in physiotherapy.
In 2009 he relocated to Pretoria, started working in an existing private practice and established Dewald Viljoen Physiotherapy in 2010.
He has a keen interest in all musculoskeletal injuries covering sport injuries, trauma injuries, post-operative rehabilitation and management of non-surgical interventions. All patient are treated in a holistic manner, probable cause and risk factors to injury is assessed, managed and advised on corrective approach and strengthening to previous injuries to avoid re-occurrence
He has been involved as assistant lecturer and senior lecturer in the Advance Neuromuscular skeletal course in physiotherapy since 2010, staying up to date with current concepts of treatment and management of injuries and in touch with new research to ensure that all patients gets the optimal care with consultations.
With a long career in his field and good exposure to both in and out of hospital based care, Dewald also works within the medico-legal field to provide optimal assessment of sustained injuries, projection of interventions required and reporting on that for any legal proceedings it may pertain to.
